Actress and singer Rumer Willis has taken a “leap of faith” and made a surprise move to Nashville for a chance at a fresh start—after she secured primary custody of her daughter, Louetta.
The 37-year-old actress, who is the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, took to social media to detail her “emotional” week, revealing that she had been busy packing up all of her belongings ahead of her relocation to Tennessee from Idaho, where she has been living since the start of 2025.
However, the move was further complicated by the fact that she also had to empty her home in Los Angeles, which she has owned since 2018, when it was passed over to her by her mother’s ex-husband, Asthon Kutcher.
A video post documenting the relocation showed a team of movers arriving at both properties, before emptying all of Willis’ personal items, including boxes, furniture, and several suitcases.
“Moving your whole life across the country is a leap of faith. They carried two decades of my life across 2,000 miles and set it down in Nashville without a scratch,” she said on Instagram, referring to the company Roadway Movers, which transferred her belongings to her new home.
Rumer, who has been embroiled in a legal battle with her ex, Derek Richard Thomas, with whom she shares her daughter, revealed she was grateful to finally have peace of mind after being awarded temporary primary custody of the 3-year-old.
“I got to say goodbye to my old home without worrying about what was in the truck and if it was going to make the trip in one piece. New chapter, officially delivered,” she said.
The move to Nashville marks a major change for Willis, who has spent the last 18 months living in a property near her mother’s longtime retreat in Aspen Lakes, ID.
The six-bedroom, eight-bathroom home, which sits on 10.5-acres, is where Moore spent much of the COVID-19 pandemic, surrounded by her loved ones—and it continues to be the place where she and her family gather for holidays and special occasions.
Moore purchased the property in 2000 following her split from Willis, with whom she shares her three daughters—and whom she has been helping through his battle with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia since he was diagnosed in 2022.
Moore has previously shared rare glimpses of her comfort property, revealing on her Instagram that the home boasts a country aesthetic and wood panels.
Although it is unclear how much Moore paid for the home, Realtor.com® estimates it is worth $3.6 million.
Willis, who was largely raised in Idaho alongside her sisters, revealed that she had moved to her own abode in the state at the start of 2025, announcing that she’d made the decision to leave Los Angeles in order to embrace a slower pace of life.
However, she confessed that the move was bittersweet, particularly as it meant saying goodbye to her longtime Los Angeles home, where she had lived for close to 14 years.
“This house and I have been through it all. I tore it down to the studs and rebuilt it with my first boyfriend,” she wrote, while sharing a video tour of the property.
“I’ve lived many different lives within these walls, tried on every version of myself (and every hair color imaginable), rearranged furniture more times than I can count, and even redesigned the kitchen before Lou was born.
“It’s been the scene of dance parties, movie nights, backyard antics, arts and crafts, and mind-expanding, belly-aching, tear-streaming mushroom journeys. I’ve felt excruciating heartbreak here and the thrill of new crushes. I’ve cried oceans of happy and sad tears, gotten ready for first dates, had great sex, not so great sex, and everything in between.
“I was pregnant in this house, gave birth in the living room, and for the past two years, I’ve raised my daughter here.
“And now, it feels like the house is finally ready to let me go. So, with the deepest love and gratitude, Lou and I say goodbye to Casablanca and L.A. and set off for a new adventure.”
While she expressed her desire for her home to pass to someone else who would “fill it with as much love, laughter, joy, and mischief” as she had, property records indicate that Rumer has not yet put the property on the market.
The singer and actress first took over ownership of the home in 2018, according to reports, when it was signed over to her by her mother’s ex-husband, Kutcher, nine years after he purchased it for $971,500.
According to People, Rumer and Ashton had previously entered into a co-ownership agreement that granted them each a 50% share of the dwelling, however legal documents filed in August 2018 indicated that this arrangement had come to an end, and that Rumer was taking full ownership.
“All debt owing under the note, deed of trust and any related loan documents has been deemed paid and satisfied in full,” the legal filing stated.
It’s unclear whether Willis plans to sell her Los Angeles home—however records show that it is not currently on the market.
And, Rumer isn’t the only member of the family beginning a new chapter. Just a few days ago, her younger sister, Tallulah, officially tied the knot with her musician partner, Justin Acee, during an intimate ceremony held near the Idaho property where she and her two sisters grew up.
Tallulah, 32, who got engaged to Acee in December 2024, was joined by a host of famous faces for the idyllic event in Sun Valley, ID, on Aug. 8, with images shared to social media by producer Heather Barry revealing that—in addition to her mother and her sisters, Rumer and Scout—the celebration was also attended by actress Lucy Liu, actor Andrew Garfield, and designer Zac Posen.
“Landman” star Ali Larter, who relocated to Sun Valley during the COVID-19 pandemic and now stars alongside Moore in the hit Taylor Sheridan drama, was also pictured at the wedding.
It is unclear, however, whether Tallulah’s father was able to attend amid his ongoing struggle with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia; the “Die Hard” actor was not seen in photos taken at the event, nor were his second wife, Emma Heming, or their daughters.
Still, the bride’s choice of ceremony location no doubt helped her to feel instantly connected to both of her parents. Tallulah, as well as her two older sisters, who served as bridesmaids, were all raised in the Hailey, ID, area, after their parents made the decision to relocate there from Los Angeles in order to give their kids a more normal life.
Over the years, both Willis and Moore, who split in 1998 and divorced in 2000, have owned multiple properties in and around Hailey, which is located just a 20-minute drive south of the center of Sun Valley.
The duo moved to Idaho in the late 1980s, soon after their eldest daughter, Rumer, 37, was born, with Willis later explaining to “Extra” that he wanted to keep his kids away from the “toxic” nature of L.A.
“Hollywood is or can be a very toxic place,” he shared in a 1995 interview. “And I’m trying to keep that away from my kids as much as I can.”
Moore and Willis purchased a sprawling ranch in the area, which they spent years renovating, before the actor began investing in several commercial properties in Hailey, including a former launderette and a dive bar. According to The Independent, Willis played a significant role in the revitalization of the town—adding a movie theater and a music venue, as well as a thriving local real estate company.
Even after he and Moore separated in the late 1990s, both maintained close ties to the area, investing in their own picturesque properties, although Willis later sold his in the 2000s, offloading a collection of cabins in 2012 for $3.9 million, while he finally managed to sell his own ranch for $5.5 million in 2018.
Moore, however, has continued to maintain a residence in Idaho, where she and her family—including Willis, Heming, and their children—enjoy regular getaways.
Over the years, the actress has shared multiple photos of herself and her loved ones enjoying the scenery of the home, including during the COVID-19 pandemic, when several of her family members hunkered down there.
