A renter has expressed outrage after receiving an unwelcome text message demanding they mow their lawn despite their official property inspection being months away.
The tenant shared their frustration over the message, which claimed a section of grass in a photo was “not addressed,” even though the lawn appeared to be in a standard condition.
Adding to the confusion, the text didn’t even come from their designated property manager.
“The person who sent me this text isnt even my PM, it is someone else and my inspection isnt even due until December,” the tenant wrote.
“And how is the lawn in the second photo ‘not addressed’? Yes it is grown but I don’t think its so bad that you ask me to cut it and upload a photo. Your thoughts?”

The incident comes just a week after the same tenant claimed the agency was rude when asked a simple question about installing an air conditioner.
Their revelation on Reddit sparked furious social media users to flood the comments section, slamming the heavy-handed demand.
“OMG the humanity! You have an inch of clover! What a lot of tossers,” one commenter said.
Others pointed out the legal rights of tenants when it comes to property upkeep and unexpected demands.
“Just ignore it. You cannot be expected to have the lawn looking perfect at all times, that lawn isn’t even overgrown,” another advised.
“You are only required to keep it in a reasonable state of cleanliness.”
“If it was your property manager I would suggest responding that the lawn is currently in a reasonable state of cleanliness.
“Note: you cannot receive a breach unless there was an official inspection. They also legally cannot ask you to make changes unless there has been an official inspection.
“While they can observe while doing an inspection next door, contacting you like they have is a breach of your quiet enjoyment. So you can breach them if you want to.”

A former real estate worker also weighed in, highlighting how unreasonable the property manager’s request was compared to standard rental guidelines.
“I worked in real estate rentals for a short while. If the lawn were getting long enough for snakes or rodents to be hiding in it, then that would be an issue for you.
But otherwise grass grows, you are allowed to live your life without measuring the grass with a rule,” they wrote.
“I saw people on inspection day, with messy houses and dirty carpets and all we could do is warn them not to leave the cleaning too long or it would cause damage.
“Inspections are also just to see how the dwelling is, if there is deterioration, repairs needed.
“Even though it can be really hard to get a rental property repaired.”
