Salaries in Singapore have risen, but so have housing and everyday expenses. Here’s why growing your income may need to go beyond your monthly paycheque.
For many Singaporeans, the financial equation feels increasingly familiar: your salary is going up, but somehow your money doesn’t seem to stretch as far as it used to.
Between 2019 and 2025, the median gross monthly income of full-time employed residents rose from S$4,563 to S$5,775 — an approximately 27% increase. Over roughly the same period, the HDB Resale Price Index rose by almost 55%.
While salary growth is important, your paycheque isn’t the only number that matters. The bigger question is: is your money growing fast enough to keep up with the cost of living?
