The former publican at Paddington’s Bellevue Hotel Susie Carleton has listed her “magical” Bundeena beachfront getaway.

Carleton, wife of the late TV legend Richard Carleton, famously owned and operated the historic pub for 25 years, from 1979 until 2004 when she sold it for $5.5m to a consortium that included adman John Singleton and former Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon.

She snapped up the prized 583sqm north-facing corner block at 1A Liverpool St, Bundeena with steps leading down to Horderns Beach for $2.02m in 2016.

Susie Carleton bought the 583sqm corner block for $2.02m in 2016.

“There was just an old fibro shack, full of asbestos … we couldn’t save it” Susie remembers.

The shack has been replaced with two separate two-bedroom residences, in keeping with the original streetscape, that take full advantage of the stunning beach and ocean views.

“They looks like they’ve been there forever,” Susie says.

“It’s just magical.

“It’s so close to home, just an hour from Sydney and you can be on the beach.”

Susie remembers lots of quality family time at the property.

“My daughter lived there during Covid, it was such a godsend,” she said.

She built two separate residences in the style of those in the neighbourhood.

Open-plan living areas lead to north-facing gardens and Horderns Beach.

But with the grandchildren now at an age where they’re less keen to visit, Susie’s selling up with a $5m guide via Debbie Donnelley of PPD who’s expecting it to be popular.

Open-plan living and dining areas lead to north-facing gardens. The sitting room in the main residence could be converted into a third bedroom.

There’s a bathroom in each dwelling.

Richard Carleton, best known for his work on the ABC’s This Day Tonight and The Carleton-Walsh Report and later the Nine Network’s 60 Minutes, died of a heart attack while covering the Beaconsfield mine disaster in Tasmania in 2006.
