Luxury kitchen appliances that only come in black? Not happy Han!

As the geologist took to her sick bed for the week on doctor’s orders to recover from acute stomach inflammation, Can was left to persevere with their ensuite construction and make all the important decisions on their kitchen appliances solo.

She took it all in her stride until the unthinkable happened and she was told that her allocated brand of appliances, AEG, only came in black.

“And Han hates black,” she stammered. “What’s Han going to think? Is she going to hate it? And I would be lying if said I didn’t have butterflies.”

Awakening Han from her nap to break the terrible news via phone from her Freedom kitchen consult, Can’s instincts were spot on.

Han did indeed hate the black appliances.

Scott Cam slams Block whingers

Can breaks the devastating news to Han that their oven will be black.

“What the f**k?” she spat, disgusted before the very patient Freedom sales assistant talked her through the crushing disappointment of being burdened with black ovens.

She realised that this wasn’t the end of the world, after all.

Can handled losing her tiler midway through bathroom week (in fairness, he had a good excuse and was getting married) with far less trepidation than telling Han about the ovens.

Lucky for Can, help was on hand. Realising she would struggle to finish the job solo (especially given the girls failed to complete the bathroom in week one with Han working around the clock and on the sly), Scott Cam called in former contestant Tom to help out.

A plumber who is known for his cheeky nature and can-do mentality after taking part in the show in 2022 with his wife Sarah-Jane, Tom was just the man to help a Hanless Can.

Tom joins team Can and Han while Han is laid up in her sick bed.

And she has big plans for this room, with a transparent amber bath and matching sinks bringing an eye-popping splash of colour to the bathroom.

Also detouring from traditional white were Sonny and Alicia, who have invested in a custom green bath and sinks for their bathroom.

The Queenslanders have also opted to move the entryway to their bathroom and replace the standard doorway with a cavity slider instead in the hopes it would make their bathroom stand out from the crowd.

But that point of difference came with all sorts of challenges.

To get around them, Sonny flirted with having no door at all to the bathroom, explaining that they didn’t have one on their own ensuite at home.

“I like that, she doesn’t,” Sonny said proudly as Alicia winced (not doubt with PTSD from having to witness her other half’s bowel movements for the past decade).

Taking a more discreet approach to such matters was Mat who – after insisting the caravan remained a poo-free zone – was revealed to have been using the facilities on the downlow whilst Robby raced offsite to conduct his business.

They took a more united front on their tile selections, which could prove a risky move given there would be 3000 of them to lay. Adding to that workload, each tile had to be individually sealed and more than half of them would need to be cut to fit the space.

“If we can pull this off, it’s going to look super lux,” Robby enthused.

The face of a man who has fallen in love, with tiles.

Last week’s victors Britt and Taz believed they had a winning strategy for this week too with a custom fluted-glass curved entryway into their four – yes, four – person shower.

I guess the family that showers together, stays together (or ends up in therapy).

Upon hearing the couple’s ambitious plans (for the doorway and not the communal shower), foreman Dan enquired whether they had measured the spaces carefully.

Taz seemed certain that his three weeks of experience on The Block had left him sufficiently qualified to work a measuring tape. Time will tell and the emphasis on the need for measuring accuracy indicates they could be headed for trouble.

It was smooth sailing for sunny Victorians Em and Ben who didn’t let getting dumped by their plasterer dampen their spirits. After being gifted a sneaky $5000 for having the best feature in their kids’ bedroom (as judged by the baristas at McCafe) the couple were feeling so confident that there was talk they would be waterproofing by Tuesday.

They weren’t. And Dan was more disappointed than the couple themselves.

Seasoned renovators, Ben and Em believe they have a showstopping shower surprise to wow the judges.

Their secret weapon is – wait for it – a curved wall.

Honestly, should curves still be being touted as in anyway surprising or unorthodox?

They are now so commonplace on the Block a straight wall would actually be the curve ball.
