A new president is inaugurated in the US and here I am talking about Bak Kwa.
I noticed that there are two Bak Kwa store when I first visited Chinatown Complex when I started work in Providend five years ago.
I saw the prices when it was off-peak then and I thought it was pretty affordable.
But I never got a chance to try.
One of them was this Peng Guan in the Yellow Section of Chinatown Complex (#02-36 if I am right). In fact, both the Bak Kwa stores are in the yellow section.

This year, like every year is a famine of bak kwa at our office. For some reason, our partners seldom give bak kwa.
As a near 45-year-old, I know Bak Kwa is not the best for our health.
But fxxk, its bak kwa. It is always good to taste some.
I could always wait until after Chinese New Year.
That is the sensible, frugal thing to do. But I just decide to get 1KG traditional one to try.
1KG cost me $56 bucks.
I asked the uncle sitting here how much would it be during off-peak and he say $36.

500 grams comes in this box.

Each piece comes vacuum sealed so it is rather convenient.
If you have bought some bak kwa, or check the prices at Shopee, you would agree $56 for 1KG at this time is not expensive at all.
Bee Cheng Hiang is $47 for 480g.
I wonder if buying 1KG is too much because if this Peng Guan bak kwa sucks, then no one will eat it in the office. Our coffee aunty always tell me those popular food, within a few hours it will be gone.
If the food is around after 1 or 2 days, it will remain until thrown away.
Anyway, I risk managed that I could eat 1KG of bak kwa if it taste like sweet, hard meat.
I went out to buy at 2.30 pm, got it in at 3pm.
I had a meeting until 5.30-6pm.
I came down and my colleagues told me NO MORE BAK KWA.
I didn’t even get a chance to taste one (but I will since I am going to get some more).
Perhaps look at Peng Guan bak kwa more like normal human beings are okay to eat.
You can give them a try if you are not so particular about bak kwa, want to cut them up to put in a container for guest to eat. There is a thing about being presentable enough for clients so Peng Guan might not be something you want to give people you want to impress.
Good for people who want at least a box to bite, but not want to spend a fortune on it.
Peng Guan has a website that you can get from. And they have a few branches like the Chinatown Complex one.
If you work close by, you can still get it from the store.
